Brad Pitt & Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 film on the track for Apple

Brad Pitt & Lewis Hamilton's Formula 1 film on the track for Apple

If there are two things we can’t get enough of in Hollywood, it’s Brad Pitt and a good old-fashioned racing movie. Add a director like Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Top Gun: Maverick) … an experienced producer like Jerry Bruckheimer (also both Top Gun films; plus far too many films to list) … Formula 1 world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton involved (side note: bet you never thought he’d ever work with Brad Pitt) … and you have a winning combination. Unsurprisingly, such a project sparked a life and death battle between every major studio and every streamer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, everyone from Paramount, Sony, Universal, MGM, Disney to the relatively new kids on the block like Netflix, Amazon, and Apple broke their war chests for this one. Currently, sources indicate that Apple is in pole position for the joint and is in exclusive negotiations for its first 2022 “big film package”. Fun fact, Apple has also secured another package in which Pitt, in addition to Ocean’s trilogy + Burn After Reading co. will play – star and real-life buddy George Clooney as a rival “lone wolf in the same job” – written, directed and produced by Jon Watts (Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy).

What is even more confusing: With all the hype that is now spilling over to the Internet behind closed doors, we don’t really know much about it yet. Aside from the talents listed above, of course, a rumored budget of $ 130 million to $ 140 million / A $ 180 million to A $ 195 million; On top of the fact that screenwriter Ehren Kruger (Reindeer Games, The Ring, and – get that – Top Gun: Maverick) was tapped to write the story, plus a vague story outline courtesy of Deadline:

Brad Pitt [plays] a racing driver who is coming out of retirement to look after a younger driver and make his last attempt on the track as the younger driver’s teammate.

As you have probably guessed, Brad Pitt is the star in said Formula 1 racing film, although it is unclear where Lewis Hamilton fits into this whole puzzle, i.e. as a producer or for a screen role. The Mercedes F1 superstar has previously produced cars like Cars 2, Cars 3, Zoolander 2, and was apparently offered an acting role at one point in Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick (which explains the connection here).

“I tried to get into Top Gun because I’m a huge fan … I had the opportunity to do it and I couldn’t. I didn’t have time to film, ”Lewis Hamilton previously revealed.

But apart from one cameo or another, Hamilton never acted seriously. However, that doesn’t exactly stop him from devoting himself to art, nor does his insanely busy calendar. At one point he took the whole thing very seriously. It even goes so far as to use the services of an entertainment agent and find an acting coach.

CONNECTED: Brad Pitt did 95% of his own stunts in the upcoming action movie “Bullet Train”

“I auditioned for a movie a while ago and it took me a day to learn the role. I had a fashion show in Paris and I probably had to go to four or five shows, so in between. ”

“I changed quickly and saw that [acting] Coach, and I saw her for twenty minutes and we quickly went over a part. And then I went to a show and came back and went through another part. “

“It’s super heavy and I try to take days to give myself some time back so I can be the best I can be here [in the Formula 1]. So it is only trying to find a balance. “

It is also not the first time that Brad Pitt has dealt with director Joseph Kosinski – nor is it her first attempt to make a racing film (for the first time without reference to Formula 1). Almost a decade ago, in 2013, the two were working with none other than Tom Cruise on a project called Go Like Hell. Joey K obviously enjoys working with the same people. Eventually Go Like Hell would fall apart before it later became James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari with Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby and Christian Bale as Ken Miles.

Keep your eyes peeled for this bad boy. We feel like it’s going to be a real Ripsnorter.
